Wake Tech Athletics Promotes Omar Asad to Head Coach

Wake Tech Athletic Director Barry Street announced today that Omar Asad will serve as head coach of the men's soccer program.

"Omar brings a wealth of experience to his duties as head coach," Street said, "he has his finger on the pulse of the soccer community from his playing days at Athens Drive High School as well North Carolina State.  I look forward to watching our soccer program grow under Omar's direction and believe he can continue to build on our solid foundation."

Coach Asad is familiar with Wake Tech soccer after serving as an assistant coach during the 2017 season.  Coach Asad is ready for the chance to lead the program moving forward, "It's a dream come true.  I've always wanted an opportunity to coach at the college level and I couldn't think of a better place to start than Wake Tech."

Among Omar's accomplishments, he was a standout center forward at Athens Drive High School in Raleigh.  He was recruited by NC State and completed a Business Administration degree in 2012. Currently, Asad coaches at Wake Futbol Club where he has served on staff since 2013.

Coach Asad is ready for the challenge ahead, he says, "Soccer is so competitive in North Carolina.  I believe our soccer program can be a pipeline for talented student athletes to build on their skills and academics.  I would like to see a number of our players graduate and transfer to four-year programs to continue their academic and playing careers."
