Wake Tech to host Play4Kay Game January 29

Wake Tech to host Play4Kay Game January 29

Wake Tech Athletics and the Kay Yow Cancer Fund are teaming up to host a Play4Kay game on Wednesday, January 29, 2020 at the Scott Northern Wake Campus.

The Eagle women's basketball team will host Louisburg College at 5pm and the men's basketball team will host Patrick Henry (Va.) Community College at 7pm.  Prior to the game there will be activities for students, faculty, staff, and fans.

The Kay Yow Cancer Fund was founded in 2007 by the late Coach Kay Yow. It is a 501(3)(c) non-profit organization with a mission to bring communities together for a greater good, to serve the underserved, and to fund scientific research in the fight against all cancers affecting women.  Since its inception, the Fund has granted $7.53 million to the mission of the fund.

"This game will not only be the first opportunity for the women's and men's team to play in our gorgeous new facility, but also serve as a fundraiser for the Kay Yow Cancer Fund in their national Play4Kay initiative," said Brian Anweiler, Wake Tech athletic director. "Donated funds will go directly towards the mission of the Kay Yow Cancer Fund toward ALL cancers affecting women. There will also be a time to celebrate any survivors in attendance."

Play4Kay unites players, coaches, and fans to do something for the greater good that far exceeds wins and losses on the court.  It is the Kay Yow Cancer Fund's largest fundraiser and most clearly the vision of Coach Yow.

Coach Yow, the longtime head coach at NC State University, was first diagnosed with breast cancer in 1987. She passed away in 2009, after a 22-year, on-again, off-again battle with the disease. Coach Yow fought that battle in the public arena. Her hope was to inspire others to make a difference in a fight that impacts each and every one of us. Coach Yow was honored with the inaugural Jimmy V ESPY for Perseverance at the 2007 ESPY Awards and Yow was named national Coach of the Year eight times.

A portion of the proceeds from the game will go to support the Kay Yow Foundation.  Fans can also contribute directly to the Kay Yow Foundation through the link below.
