Wake Tech cancels Fall 2020 Seasons

Wake Tech cancels Fall 2020 Seasons

RALEIGH (June 26, 2020) – Wake Tech has canceled fall sports for the 2020-21 academic year.  The decision comes after the college announced on Friday that in-person activities would be canceled for the fall semester due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and the college's commitment to protect the health and safety of our community.

The sports impacted are men's and women's soccer, volleyball, and fall men's and women's golf. A decision on winter sports (men's and women's basketball) and spring sports (baseball, softball, spring golf) will be made at a later date. Off-season team activities for Wake Tech's other athletic programs will have impacts as well.

Any Wake Tech student-athletes who wish to transfer to another college will be released from National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Letters of Intent. The college will honor any NJCAA Letter of Intent scholarship obligation for student-athletes.

"We know this is a difficult and disappointing time for our student-athletes and coaches," said Wake Tech Athletic Director Brian Anweiler. "However, the health and welfare of our students, coaches, and staff is our greatest concern. We want to help our student-athletes continue toward the ultimate goal of earning a college degree or credential."
