Current Student Athlete Resources

Congratulations on being a student-athlete at Wake Technical Community College.
We are proud you are an Eagle!

NJCAA Eligibility Requirements

Wake Tech adheres to the academic guidelines established by the NJCAA. Each student-athlete must enroll and complete a minimum of 12 credit hours per semester during the season (see note below).  Student-athletes must also meet progress toward degree requirements to maintain NJCAA eligibility. There are additional eligibility requirements for second season participants and transfer students.  For more information please consult the NJCAA Prospective Student Athlete Information link below and ask your head coach or the Athletic Director.  IMPORTANT NOTE: Each course in the student-athlete's full-time class schedule (12 credits) must start prior to the end of the regular season.

Finally, each student-athlete should be aware that they have a total of four years of eligibility to compete in intercollegiate athletics and playing for Wake Tech counts as part of your eligibility. Students can only participate in intercollegiate athletics at Wake Tech/NJCAA level for two years and participation in NJCAA sports is limited to the FIRST two years of participation.

Please carefully review the NJCAA requirements outlined HERE (LINK) to help determine your eligiblity.  International students and students on an I-20 Visa or foreign high school transcript must meet additional requirements outlined in the link above.

It is the objective of the College that each student-athlete graduate from Wake Tech with an Associate’s Degree or complete the academic program of choice. If your goal is to transfer and participate in intercollegiate athletics at a four-year college or university, please consult the head coach or athletic director who will be guiding you with that goal in mind. It is NOT our intent to keep students eligible just to play sports.

Mental Health Resources for Student-Athletes

Through the CARE (Connections, Advising, Resources, and Engagement) Center, Wake Tech offers a Wellness Services office available to all students. Wellness Services is a free mental health resource for Wake Tech students. Wellness counselors can help with relationship concerns, adjustment issues, depression, anxiety, and many other challenges. They tailor counseling to fit you and your needs. They listen closely to understand your experience and to help you identify goals and move toward them. Therapy is a personalized experience, so how it helps differs from person to person. It often provides a fresh perspective on your experiences, allows you to explore and discover things about yourself, and helps you create new patterns of thinking and behaving, and learn healthy coping tools.

In addition, the NJCAA has created some resources and the list is not exhaustive, nor do they represent an NJCAA or Wake Tech endorsement. However, all resources were assessed by the NJCAA Student-Athlete Welfare and Safety Council, and thereby determined to be credible and beneficial.

Academic Support Resources

Wake Tech also offers a variety of academic resources to assist students needing additional help and support.

The Individualized Learning Center (ILC) offers a range of free tutoring services for students. In-person and online tutoring are available throughout the week, including weekends.

In addition, the Academic Success Centers offer comfortable and inviting spaces where students can study, build skills and develop ideas, collaborate with other students, and engage with faculty. Each of the centers has a specific focus – STEM, reading, writing, math, communications, social sciences, foreign language, and the humanities  – and provides valuable resources and support aimed at helping students complete their programs of study successfully.

Transferring to a four-year program

Many students come to Wake Tech with the intent to transfer and compete in intercollegiate athletics at a four-year institution.  The NCAA and NAIA are the primary governing bodies for four-year college athletics.  Student seeking to transfer must adhere to the rules and guidelines of institution they are seeking to transfer.  Students should meet early with their head coach and athletic director to better understand the process.  The links below can help you learn more about transfer requirements for each governing body.
