Brett Rutherford joined Wake Tech as the Assistant Athletic Director for External Operations in October 2023.
Rutherford comes to Wake Tech after spending the previous two years at Tallahassee Community College. He was the Assistant for Athletics and Communications from July 2022 to September 2023 and from January 2021 to July 2022 was the Lead Broadcaster/Sports Information Assistant for the TCC Eagles.
In addition to his experience at TCC, he has experience in sports and corporate broadcasting.
In his role at Wake Tech, Rutherford will be the lead content producer for the college's athletic website, social media, and other multimedia outlets. In addition, he will support the athletic department's daily business operations.
"We look forward to having Brett join our Eagles Athletic Department leadership team," said Pate. "His experience and expertise in his areas of responsibility, along with his commitment to student-athlete success, will further build on our Wake Tech athletics brand on campus and the community."
Rutherford was the Sports Director at WVFS Tallahassee from August 2018 to August 2020. WVFS is the student-run radio station at Florida State University. He provided coverage for FSU's athletic program and hosted a weekly sports talk show, Tomahawk Talk. He was also a reporter for WFSU Public Media providing coverage for local business developments, sports, and state and local politics.
He is also a senior writer for DRaysBay.com, where he hosts the "Rays Your Voice" podcast.

Rutherford has a Bachelor's and Master's in Media & Communication Studies from FSU.
