Wake Tech takes series over nationally ranked Patrick Henry

DURHAM, NC – Wake Technical Community College took two of three of games in the weekend series over twelfth ranked Patrick Henry Community College with a 6-3 victory Sunday afternoon at Historic Durham Athletic Park.

Johny McDonald and Van Gupton, Jr. each hit homeruns in the first inning propelling the Eagles to an early 3-0 lead.  McDonald's homerun over the right field fence scored Cameron Verrier.  Gupton's homer, also over the right field fence, was a solo.

The Patriots' Max Harper hit a two-run homerun in the third bringing PHCC to within one run, 3-2, but that is as close as they would get.  The Eagles led the entire game.

In the fourth, Nick Badgett's RBI single into center field drove in Gupton.  Camden Munise's homer plated Badgett for a 6-2 lead.

Wake Tech pitching allowed just one more run in the sixth inning and held steady for the 6-3 win.   Eagle starter Luke Absher went 6.2 innings recording eight strikeouts, six hits, and three runs with two earned.  Josiah Barhite closed the game holding the Patriots scoreless over 2.1 innings with one hit and one strikeout for his first save of the season.

Guptun went 2-for-4 with an RBI, Badgett went 2-for-3 with an RBI, and Christian Schmidt went 2-for-4 to lead the Eagles offensively.

PHCC's Tristan McAlister went 2-for-4 as the only multi-hit performer.  Starter Spencer Rife (5-2) took the loss.

The Eagles return to the field on Saturday, May 1, at 1pm when the they host Cleveland Community College for a 1pm doubleheader at Ting Stadium in Holly Springs.
