Eagles sweep doubleheader over CCBC-Dundalk in 2023 home opener

HOLLY SPRINGS, NC - Kai Hansen hit a solo homerun in the third inning of Saturday's 2023 home opener at Ting Stadium to help propel Wake Tech to an 11-5 victory over the Community College of Baltimore County – Dundalk.

After trailing 1-0, the Eagles plated two runs in the third inning and added three runs in the fourth to secure their first victory.

Hansen went 2-for-4 with a double and 3 RBI and Cole Zak also went 2-for-4 with 2 RBI with two doubles to lead the Eagles at the plate.  Zak's RBI double into right field scored Andrew Holub for the winning run in the fifth inning to put the Eagles up 6-3. Wake Tech tallied 14 stolen bases in game one.

Hector Diaz with 2-for-4 and scored two runs to lead the Lions.

Sawyer Smith earned his first win of the season for the Eagles going 5.0 innings in a starting role.  He allowed three runs, two earned, off five hits with six strikeouts.

In game two, the Eagles (2-3) enjoyed an 8-0 lead heading into the seventh inning to secure an 8-1 victory over the Lions.

Cameron Verrier was 2-for-3, Ick Cirino went 3-for-3 with an RBI, and Holub went 2-for-2 with 3 RBI to lead Wake Tech's offense.  Cirino and Verrier each recorded a double and Tristan Blatt hit a solo homerun.

Robert Garner got the start and the win for Wake Tech in the second game. He pitched six scoreless innings allowing just two hits with nine strikeouts.

The Eagles return to action on Wednesday at 3pm when they host Fayetteville Tech at Ting Stadium.
