Eagle Baseball sweeps weekend series over Guilford Tech

Andrew Holub rounds the bases for Wake Tech.

HOLLY SPRINGS, NC – Wake Tech baseball scored 10 unanswered runs to defeat Guilford Tech 12-2 in five innings Sunday afternoon at Ting Stadium in Holly Springs. The win gave Wake Tech a weekend series sweep over the Titans.

Before an hour weather delay, Wake Tech plated six runs in the fourth inning to pull away from the Titans. Kelan Polard drew a lead-off walk and Will Hovey singled into left field to spark the big inning. After the first out, Cameron Verrier also walked to load the bases.  Andrew Holub drove in Pollard and Hovey on an infield error for the inning's first runs.  Cole Zak's single into centerfield drove in Verrier and Holub.  Ick Cirino's line drive single into left field setup Kai Hansen's ground ball that scored Zak and Cirino off another GTCC infield error.

Guilford Tech threatened in the fifth inning loading the bases with no outs as the rain became steadier and led to the one-hour delay.  Trey Hodgin took the mound for Wake Tech out of the delay and promptly recorded three consecutive strikeouts to erase the threat.

Wake Tech scored four runs in the fifth inning to secure the shortened victory.

Zak went 3-for-4 with three RBI and two runs scored to lead Wake Tech at the plate.  Hovey was 2-for-3 with two runs scored.

Blake Cuddington earned the win with 4.0 innings pitched with seven strikeouts.

Wake Tech is back at Ting Stadium on Saturday at 1pm with a doubleheader against Catawba Valley.  On Sunday, Wake Tech launches a month-long celebration of Eagle spirit. Sunday's game will feature free giveaways and promotional item.  First pitch is at noon.
