Wake Tech Esports ready for post season play

Wake Tech student athletes in esports in action in the esports arena

RALEIGH, NC – Wake Tech will have three teams competing in post season competition in the coming weeks.  League of Legends and Valorant teams will be in National Junior College Athletic Association Esports (NJCAAE) Premier Series competition and Rocket League is competing in the Carolina Collegiate Clash.

The League of Legends finished the regular season with an 8-1 record and entered the tournament as a fourth seed.  The Eagles defeated Guilford Tech 3-0 in the quarterfinals and top-seeded Heartland (Ill.) Community College 3-0 in the semifinals.  Wake Tech will play the second seed College (Ill.) of DuPage on Saturday for the NJCAAE Premier Series National Championship. The winner of the championship, representing the NJCAAE, will advance to the 2024 League of Legends College Championship featuring the best 32 collegiate teams in the country.

Wake Tech's Valorant team finished the regular season with a 6-1 record and first place in their group.  The top four teams from each of the two groups advance to the NJCAAE East Super Regional.  The Eagles are the second seed in the tournament and will play the Owls from Union (NJ) College on Thursday in the opening round.  Round two is on April 11 and the East Super Regional is on April 13.

Finally, the Eagles' Rocket League is competing in the Carolina Collegiate Clash April 20-21 at the University of North Carolina Wilmington.  Wake Tech will open the event against UNC Charlotte on April 20. The Carolina Collegiate Clash is made up of collegiate programs in North and South Carolina including the University of South Carolina, East Carolina, Lander (SC), and Clemson. Wake Tech is the only two-year college to qualify for the tournament.
