MBB: Season Recap

MBB: Season Recap

Expectations for the 2017-2018 season among coaches and players were running high in September and October, but when you're returning three sophomores and only starting one- you have to keep things in perspective.

There's a lot to take away from the season: The Eagles were highly competitve, but showed signs of their youth often during the season.  On more than one occasion, Wake Tech would have a lead only to let it slip away.  As the season progressed, we were charmed by their sparks of brilliance.  A road win over regional power Pitt Community College, a huge overtime win against nationally ranked Louisburg College, and a road win over nationally ranked Richard Bland.

Let's face it, Region X is one of the top conferences in the country.  At any given time there can easily be two or three teams ranked in the top 20 in the nation.  This season was no different, but what is different is the level of experience and firepower set to come back for the Eagles in 2018-2019.

Wake Tech closes out the season with a record of 14-16, finishing the conference with an 11-9 mark.  For the season the Eagles averaged 83 points per game, 41 rebounds per game, and 13 assists per contest.

Individually, Wake Tech has some phenomenal freshman that are set to become super sophomores this fall.  Check out our league leaders...

Scoring:

Eddie Volkerts second in Region X, averaging 23.2 points per contest
Koraan Clemonts third in Region X, averaging 18.4 points per game
Christian Anumihe ranked in the top 50, averaging 10 points per game

Departing sophomore Nick Johnson finished the season ranked 20th in Region X in scoring with 13.5 points per contest.

Rebounding:

Christian Anumihe second in Region X, averaging 11.4 rebounds per game
Eddie Volkerts ranked in the top 20, averaging 6.7 rebounds per game

Departing sophomore Nick Johnson finished the season ranked fourth in Region X in rebounds with 9.3 rebounds per contest.

Coach Adam Wainwright filled out a roster full of emerging freshman that have the potential to compete for a region title in 2018-2019.  As long as our players return to the line up healthy, the sky is the limit when looking ahead to next season.
