Adam Wainwright

Adam Wainwright was named the third men’s basketball coach at Wake Tech in August 2016.  

Wainwright served as an assistant men’s basketball coach at Barton College (NCAA DII) for two seasons prior to being named the head coach at Wake Tech.  He helped the Bulldogs reach the postseason and make it to the 2016 conference finals. 

In just his third season at Wake Tech, he guided the program to its second NJCAA Region 10 Championship and its second appearance in the NJCAA DII National Tournament in Illinois. Wainwright also oversaw the transition from NJCAA Division II to Division I. His team finished 10-6 in their first year at the DI level, earning the #3-seed at the Region 10 Tournament. 

"I'm thrilled to be here," Wainwright said. "I look forward to building a top-notch program. Wake Tech is the flagship of the community college system, and I'm honored to lead its athletes."

Wainwright has many connections to NJCAA Region 10 colleges. He served as an assistant men's basketball coach at Sandhills Community College (2013-2014), was head men's and women's basketball coach at the University of South Carolina-Sumter (2011-2012), and assistant men’s basketball coach at Pitt Community College (2008-10).

He had one additional stint as an assistant coach at Barton College for the 2010-2011 season. Wainwright was a Graduate Assistant for Student Development - Men's and Women's Basketball at East Carolina University (2007-08).

“My goal for this program is to compete every year to bring home regional and national championships to Wake Tech and continue to build upon the college's national profile," added Wainwright.

Wainwright has a Bachelor’s Degree in Public Policy Analysis with a minor in Exercise and Sport Science from UNC Chapel Hill.  He has a Master’s Degree in Sport Administration from East Carolina University.
