Hawley Ill Promoted to Head Softball Coach

Wake Tech Athletic Director Barry Street announced today that Hawley Ill is moving up to take over the head coaching duties for the women's softball program.

"Hawley stepped up during the 2016-2017 season as assistant coach," Street said, "she showed an undeniable passion for coaching.  I'm excited about how tenacious she's been as a recruiter and look forward to the direction of the softball program."

Ill served as an assistant coach for the Eagles last season, but brings a wealth of knowledge to the team.  Hawley served in the following capacities: hitting, pitching, catcher, and conditioning coach with the Hatter's Gold Travel Softball Organization for 3 years.

Coach Ill comes from a solid playing background as she completed her senior season at St. Andrew's University in Laurinburg, NC.  As an All Conference Pitcher she lead the conference in strikeouts while hitting .340. Prior to St. Andrew's University, Ill was also All Conference at the University of Pikeville in Kentucky as a second baseman, while leading the team offensively.

"I'm thrilled to be named head coach." Ill said. "I am excited about all of the returning players we have, as well as the new recruits! I believe we will shock a lot of people next season and in the years to come."

Coach Ill is ready for the challenge ahead, she says, "I plan to help my team grow as softball players and young women by bringing my knowledge and understanding of the game to them. It is my top priority to make sure my players graduate and move on to a four-year program and continue playing the game they love while getting a college education."
