GREENSBORO, NC – Wake Tech Softball split Sunday afternoon's doubleheader against the Guilford College JV team, picking up their first win of the season in game two.
The Eagles jumped out to an early lead in game one and looked to be pulling ahead for a comfortable victory. Five straight two-out hits led to three runs crossing the plate, and the Eagles would plate three more before Guilford scored their first run in the bottom of the third.
It fell apart for Wake Tech in the fourth inning, when Guilford scored five runs against three different Wake Tech pitchers. The Eagles were never able to rally back and lost the first game 15-7.
The story changed in game two, when a strong team performance propelled Wake Tech to a 10-2 win. Leah Correll was back on the mound to try and find the same success that held Guilford to one run through the first three innings in game one. Correll went the distance in this one, going five innings and allowing just two runs. There was only one error behind her in the field.
Kendall London tallied six hits on the afternoon and reached base safely in all eight of her plate appearances. She has been a stalwart in the middle of the Eagles' lineup through four games this season, running up an incredible .833 batting average. Hailie Edmondson and Cyndia Dobbins also had impactful performances, each recording three hits, three runs, and three RBI.
The Eagles will play their first NJCAA opponent of the season on Wednesday when they hit the road to play Gaston in a doubleheader. Their first home games will be this weekend at Buffaloe Road Athletic Park, when they host Southwest Virginia for a three-game series. There will be a doubleheader on Saturday starting at 1:00pm, and one game on Sunday at 12:00pm. The games will not be live streamed, but you can follow the action through live stats.
