Season comes to an end for Women's Basketball in Region 10 Quarterfinals

Season comes to an end for Women's Basketball in Region 10 Quarterfinals

BOLIVIA, NC — Wake Tech Women's Basketball saw their season come to an end on Wednesday afternoon in a 77-72 loss against Southwest Virginia in the quarterfinals of the NJCAA Region 10 Division II Tournament. Southwest Virginia advances to the semifinals, where they will take on #1-seed Bryant & Stratton on Thursday.

The Eagles finish with an 18-12 record, their fourth winning season in the last five seasons for the program. They finished with a 15-9 record in conference, which gave them the #5-seed entering the tournament.

Sophomore forward Aquarius Pettaway and freshman guard Journee Spencer received All-Region 10 honors, with Pettaway being named to the first team and Spencer receiving an honorable mention. Spencer currently leads and is likely to finish the season leading the nation in steals per game (6.5). Pettaway finishes her Wake Tech career with over 800 total points and nearly 700 rebounds across 55 games played and 46 starts.

Prior to the game, Pettaway and Spencer were honored on the court, along with the team's All-Region Academic honorees: Eliana Dinakaran, Chloe Kester, Colleen Klahn, and Leslie Trejo-Zuniga.

While the Eagles had aspirations to advance further in the tournament, it's hard not to classify the first season under head coach Taisha Murphy as a success. The team rattled off a seven-game winning streak in December and January, the program's longest in over two years. The team led Region 10 Division II in rebounds per game, steals per game, and blocks per game.
