WSoc: 2018 Schedule Release

2018 Schedule Release

Wake Tech women's soccer is ready to hit the ground running, and the motivation comes from first-year head coach Kristopher Hanks.

"I'm beyond excited for the season to start. I feel lucky being able to tie my career onto what is a rising star of a program here at Wake Tech", Hanks believes, "women's soccer is back and we're here to stay."

The Eagles have scheduled home scrimmages against St. Andrews University on August 15 and Shaw University on August 20 to iron out any details prior to their home opener against Converse College on August 22 at 2:00 pm.

After their contest against Converse College, it's full speed ahead into the conference schedule.  Coach Hanks is looking forward to turning some heads in 2018, "this season could very well shape up to be the one in which women's soccer at Wake Tech pivots toward uncharted territory and a long-awaited winning season."

It won't be easy with home contests against Cape Fear Community College on September 14, Spartanburg Methodist on October 2, and Louisburg College on October 18.

What's great about getting to know Coach Hanks is his optimism and student success focus, "the non-conference schedule was built purposefully—both from an athletic and academic standpoint. I chose only 4-year schools to play against—ranging from NAIA to DII—so that the players would have a chance to visit schools "at the next level". These games afford our women the chance to see what a 4-year-level program plays like, what they look like as a team, what their facilities look like, and how the coaches interact with their players."

It's a unique approach and may serve as a catalyst for change. Coach Hanks continues, "it might also give them the chance to read up on a school that they know we are visiting and begin interacting with key personnel there. I have every intention of continuing my track record of helping my players get the most out of their education by assisting them in getting to the next level, whether that be for athletics or academics. It is important to me that they see all the other options they have outside of the Triangle."
