RALEIGH, NC – Sophomore forward Emily Parker netted five goals in Wake Tech's season opening 8-0 victory over Southwest Virginia Community College Wednesday afternoon at the WRAL Soccer Park.

After playing much of the opening half scoreless, Parker put the Eagles on the board in the 34th minute with her first goal assisted by freshman Savannah Backholm. Just two minutes later, Parker again found the net this time assisted by freshman Molly Schnitzer. Freshman Lina Chavez scored the final goal of the first half with an assist from Backholm.

Parker added three more goals in the second half. One was unassisted and two with assists from Backholm and returner Monique Diaz. Sophomore transfer Victoria Renna (Pfeiffer University) scored a goal in the 78th minute from freshman Riley Beaster. Schnitzer scored off a penalty kick.

Freshman goalkeeper Jeylin Perla recorded four saves in the shutout victory.

"The team is starting to get in game mode," said head coach Enrique Rodriguez on his team's season opening victory. "Everyone has 100% commitment and the desire to improve everyday. Now is time to start preparing for our next match."

The Eagles return to action on Wednesday, September 6, at Baron College in Wilson, NC.
