Season Recap: Volleyball Defies The Odds

Season Recap: Volleyball Defies The Odds

Wake Tech's mix of youth, talent, and personalities highlight a successful season for 7th year head coach Stephanie Sports, finishing with a 22-10 overall record and a 10-5 mark in conference play.

On paper, the team was easy to dissect- seven out of ten were freshmen, one of the two returning sophomores was out due to injury, and only one player was taller than 5'8".  You could reach the conclusion the Eagles lacked experience and the ability to defend at the net.  What proved to be the teams greatest asset is something that cannot be measured- heart.  Coach Sports balanced the perfect team chemistry and allowed this squad to succeed.  What the team gave the college was an exciting season to watch unfold.

Coach Sports summed it up best, "There were no expectations, but a huge oportunity to learn and grow and I think we did that."

Eagles on the Rise

Women's volleyball has been improving over the last couple years.  In 2016 the Eagles climbed from 4th to 3rd in their division.  As of the conclusion of the 2017 season, Wake Tech moved from 3rd to 2nd in the division.

Looking Forward

If the freshmen from the 2017 team return as sophomores, adding a few missing pieces could make the 2018 season great!
