Play4Kay Doubleheader on Wednesday

Play4Kay Doubleheader on Wednesday

RALEIGH – Wake Tech Athletics and the Kay Yow Cancer Fund are teaming up to host a Play4Kay game on Wednesday, January 29, at the Scott Northern Wake Campus.

The Eagle women's basketball team will host Louisburg College at 5pm and the men's basketball team will host Patrick Henry (Va.) Community College at 7pm.  Prior to the game there will be activities for students, faculty, staff, and fans.

The Kay Yow Cancer Fund was founded in 2007 by the late Coach Kay Yow. It is a 501(3)(c) non-profit organization with a mission to bring communities together for a greater good, to serve the underserved, and to fund scientific research in the fight against all cancers affecting women.  Since its inception, the Fund has granted $7.53 million to the mission of the fund.

Prior to the women's game, former North Carolina State student-athlete Jennifer (Filipowski) Rasnake, who played under Coach Kay Yow, will be presenting the game ball to the officials along with her husband, Jason, who is the head coach of Louisburg College and a former staff member under Coach Yow.

Play4Kay unites players, coaches, and fans to do something for the greater good that far exceeds wins and losses on the court.  It is the Kay Yow Cancer Fund's largest fundraiser and most clearly the vision of Coach Yow.

Festivities will start at 3pm with a free-throw and three-point challenge. At 4pm, other events will take place in the gymnasium lobby.  Other attractions include free t-shirts and pizza for students.

National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Executive Director, Dr. Christopher Parker, will be presenting the game ball for the men's game. The NJCAA has over 500 member institutions and serves 60,000 student-athletes. Parker started the first ever NJCAA athletic program in the Virginia Community College System where he served as both the athletic director and head baseball coach at Patrick Henry Community College.

A portion of the proceeds from the game will go to support the Kay Yow Foundation.  Fans can also contribute directly to the Kay Yow Cancer Fund through the link below.
