The Eagles came out firing, but couldn't hang on to the lead, ending up on the losing side of a 10-5 ballgame against Surry CC on Sunday at North Main Athletic Complex.
While the Eagles led until the seventh inning, Surry CC worked its way back and took the lead on an RBI double by Smith.
Keegan Woolford racked up two RBIs on two hits for the Eagles. He singled in the first inning and homered in the third inning.
Staley got the win for Surry CC. He tossed two-thirds of an inning of shutout ball. Staley struck out none, walked none and gave up two hits.
Davis, Stanley and J Davis helped lead Surry CC. They combined for four hits and six RBIs.
Derek Jackson was the game's losing pitcher. He lasted just 3 2/3 innings, walked one, struck out three, and allowed three runs.
The Eagles jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first. Garrett Wise kicked things off for the Eagles with a single. A single by Woolford then moved Wise from first to second.
The Eagles survived Surry CC's surge and put up three runs of their own in the third. The Eagles scored on an RBI triple by Wise and a two-run home run by Woolford.
Surry CC went up for good in the seventh, scoring three runs on two doubles.
