Eleven Eagles commit to four-year programs

RALEIGH, N.C. – Wake Tech head baseball coach Robert Dudley announced that eleven former Eagles have committed to continuing their education and athletic careers at four-year institutions.

Three Eagles signed with NCAA Division I programs, three with NCAA Division II teams, and five with NCAA Division III programs including three committing to Raleigh's William Peace University.

Caleb Plummer (Virginia Commonwealth), Jacob Murray (Campbell), Kevin Catrine (UNC Asheville), Derek Roy (William Peace), Tyler Vaughn (William Peace), Zach Knapp (William Peace), Connor Ledet (Oglethorpe), Alec Bell (Pfeiffer), Kyle Jackson (Erskine), Ryan Sutton (Erskine), and Harrison Bernard (Erskine) all announced their future intentions.

While the 2020 campaign was cut short, the team was second in the conference and third in the nation in stolen bases, tied for second in the conference and tied for fourth in the nation in triples, third in the conference and tied for seventh in the country in home runs, second in the league and eighth in the nation in walks, and tied for first in the conference and tied for ninth in strikeouts.

Plummer (Chest/Shelby, NC) is 6-1 right handed pitcher appearing in five games in 2020 with four starts in 17.1 innings of action. He appeared in two games as freshman in 2019 regular season due to an injury.  However, during the Eagles' fall 2019 season he pitched in eight innings with sixteen strikeouts with a 0.00 ERA and allowed just one hit. VCU is a member of the Atlantic 10 Conference.

Murray (East Wake/Wendell, NC) is a 5-11 left handed pitcher appearing in four games in 2020 with three starts. He was 2-0 as a sophomore on the mound.  In nine games for the Eagles in 2019, he recorded 25.1 innings pitched with a 1-3 record in one start as a freshman.  He was in third on the team in strikeouts with 27. Campbell is a member of the Big South Conference.

Catrine (Fuquay-Varina/Fuquay-Varina, NC) saw action in 14 games as a sophomore in 2020 with four home runs, nine RBIs, and eight stolen bases. He hit .300 for the Eagles. As a freshman, he played in 22 games with 10 runs, 18 hits, and 7 RBIs. UNC Asheville is a member of the Big South Conference.

Roy (Middle Creek/Apex, NC) only appeared in one game on the mound in 2020.  As a freshman, the 6-5 right handed pitcher had six appearances with eight strikeouts. William Peace is a member of the USA South Athletic Conference.

Vaughn (Triton/Erwin, NC) played in 18 games as a sophomore with .231 average, four doubles, 15 hits, and three homeruns. In 2019, he averaged .364 with 52 hits, 11 doubles, six homeruns, and had 19 stolen bases. William Peace is a member of the USA South Athletic Conference.

Knapp (Jack Britt/Fayetteville, NC) appeared in seven games in his only season with Wake Tech in 2020. He started in four with 18.1 innings pitched. As a freshman in 2018, he appeared in 15 games with five starts. He recorded 15 strikeouts with a 3.93 ERA. William Peace University is a member of the USA South Athletic Conference.

Bell (Kings Mountain/Kings Mountain, NC) played in 14 games with 37 at bats in 2020 with 5 hits, two doubles, and a triple. As a freshman, Bell appeared in 15 games with 45 at bats scoring 10 runs off 14 hits with a homerun.  Pfeiffer University is a member of the USA South Athletic Conference.

Jackson (Fuquay-Varina/Fuquay-Varina, NC) played in 18 games with 55 at bats as a sophomore. He had 17 hits, six doubles, 14 RBIs and three homeruns.  In 2019, Jackson had 76 at bats in 27 games.  He scored 17 runs, off 21 hits including six doubles. He also recorded 18 RBIs. Erskine College is a member of the Conference Carolinas.

Bernard (Weddington/Weddington, NC) is a 6-5 right handed pitcher that made seven appearances in 2020 and recorded a 3-0 with 1.06 ERA. In 2019, he appeared in 10 games with 8.1 innings with one loss and one save. Erskine College is a member of the Conference Carolinas.

Sutton (Weddington/Weddington, NC) had three appearances with 4.0 innings in his one year with the Eagles due to an injury. Sutton transferred to Wake Tech from Campbell University. Erskine College is a member of the Conference Carolinas.

Ledet (Cox Mill/Charlotte, NC) had 17 at bats in nine games as a sophomore in 2020 with two hits and two RBIs. As a freshman, he had 39 at bats in 16 games with seven hits and two doubles. Oglethorpe University is a member of the Southern Athletic Association.
