Wake Tech Baseball Suits Up as Outdoor Sports Returns

RALEIGH, NC – It's been nearly one year since the COVID-19 pandemic abruptly ended Wake Tech's 2020 baseball season, but after a long pause, the Eagles will take the field Saturday, February 27 to start their 2021 campaign.

The team heads to Newport News, Va. on Saturday to face Thomas Nelson Community College (TNCC).  On Sunday, Wake Tech plays Thomas Nelson in a return match at J.B. Flaherty Park Field in Wake Forest.  Both dates feature a double header with first pitch scheduled for noon.

"The guys have overcome a lot of adversity to get to this point," said second-year Eagle head coach Robert Dudley.  "They have been hard at work preparing for the season and are excited to play and have done everything asked academically and on the field."

Attendance on Sunday will be limited to 100 fans due to the small venue size.  Considering attendance policies and allowing for additional safety, the games will be live streamed on Wake Tech's Athletics YouTube channel.

The 2021 schedule features 40 games against NJCAA Region 10 West Division opponents and several midweek matchups against local colleges.

Following Sunday's game at J.B. Flaherty Park, home games will be played at Ting Stadium in Holly Springs with one exception.  The Eagles will play at the historic Durham Athletic Park (DAP) on April 24-25 against Patrick Henry (Va.) Community College.

Per North Carolina COVID-19 procedures, attendance at Ting Park will be limited to 700.  For The DAP game, the number of fans allowed is still to be determined. Fans at all games in North Carolina will be required to maintain social distancing and wear face coverings.  Each school has unique protocols and may further limit capacity in addition to state parameters.

Student-athletes, coaches, and game personnel will be required to wear face coverings when not actively involved in competition.
