HOLLY SPRINGS, NC – Wake Technical Community College plated 11 runs in the fourth inning to sweep the weekend series over Fayetteville Technical Community College 16-6 on Sunday afternoon at Ting Stadium in Holly Springs.

Wake Tech opened up an early 5-0 lead after two innings, scoring three runs in the opening frame and two more in the second.  In the first inning, Cole Cunningham's RBI single plated Wayne Mize for Wake Tech's first run.  Cameron Verrier hit a 2-RBI triple for the early 3-0 lead.

However, FTCC would score five runs in the third compliments of a grand slam by Johnie Lowery that just cleared the right field foul pole. Cameron Labit's RBI single plated the Trojans first run of the inning. The five Trojan runs would tie the game.

FTCC took a 6-5 the lead in the fourth, before Wake Tech exploded for 11 runs in the home half of the inning and secure the five-inning victory. The Eagles scored nine runs with no outs.

Johny McDonald went 2-for-3 with an RBI and Christian Schmidt with 2-for-4 with 2 RBI to lead Wake Tech at the plate.  Verrier totaled 3 RBI going 1-for-3.

Camden Munise (1-1) picked up his first win this season for Wake Tech in relief of starter Bert Redding. Munise allowed just two hits and one run with five strikeouts in two innings.

The weekend sweep was the Eagles (13-13) first since March 16-17, 2019 when Wake Tech also took three over FTCC.

Wake Tech travels to the USA Baseball National Training Complex on Thursday for a mid-week game with William Peace University's developmental team.  First pitch is 6pm.
