DURHAM, NC – Cole Cunningham scored the winning run in the ninth inning on a wild pitch to send Wake Technical Community College to a thrilling 9-8 victory over twelfth ranked Patrick Henry Community College Friday evening at Historic Durham Athletic Park.

In a game that saw several momentum and lead changes, it was the Patriots that jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the first inning.

However, Wake Tech used a four-run third inning to shift things in favor of the Eagles.  Wayne Mize doubled to center field to score Hunter SellsMatt Long singled to left plating Mize and JR Gupton's double scored Cunningham and Long.

The Eagles scored two more runs in the sixth when Cameron Verrier hit the first of his two homeruns on Friday.  Verrier's homerun also scored Christian Schmidt giving Wake Tech a 6-2 lead.

However, the nationally ranked Patriots would score four runs in the seventh and one run each in the eighth and ninth innings and tied the game at eight each in the top of the ninth.

Cunningham doubled to right field scoring Sells in the seventh. Verrier hit his second home run of the game in the eighth.

Verrier went 2-for-4 with 3 RBI. Cunningham went 3-for-5 with an RBI.  Long with 2-for-4 with an RBI and Gupton went 2-for-3 with 2 RBI.

Jayson Kramer went 4-for-5 with 2 RBI and 2 runs scored to lead PHCC.

Josh Plisko (2-2) earned the win for the Eagles in two innings of action to close the game.  Starter Bryson Wagner went 6.1 innings with nine strikeouts.

In the nightcap, it was PHCC that would score in dramatic fashion plating nine runs in the third inning to secure the 12-2 win.
