HOLLY SPRINGS, NC – Johny McDonald hit a two-run homer in the seventh inning to lift Wake Tech to a 7-5 victory over Cleveland Community College in game one of a doubleheader Saturday afternoon at Ting Stadium in Holly Springs.

Matt Long's RBI single into left plated Camden Munise and broke open a 3-3 game in the seventh and give Wake Tech a 4-3 lead. McDonald's two-run homer put the Eagles up 6-3 and would prove to be the winning runs. Van Gupton Jr.'s RBI single drove in Cole Cunningham to cap the four-run seventh inning.

The Yetis would score two in the ninth, but the Eagles held on the for the first of two victories on Saturday.

Long, Gupton, and Munise each went 2-for-4 in game one. Christian Schmidt hit a double, Cunningham a triple, and Verrier connected on a home run in the third inning.

Josh Plisko (3-2) earned the win for Wake Tech.

In game two, Wake Tech scored four runs in the opening frame and held on for another 7-5 win. McDonald hit his second homerun of the day and Cunningham hit his first homer of the season in the first inning.

Nick Badgett and Christian Schmidt each went 2-for-3 for Wake Tech. Badgett and McDonald also had two RBI apiece.

Bryson Wagner (4-4) got the start and the win for the Eagles. He went 5.0 innings with seven strikeouts. Jordan Blalock earned his first save of the season going 1.1 innings allowing just one hit with one strikeout.

Kyras Dawson went 2-for-5 as the lone Yeti with multiple hits in the afternoon.

The Eagles and Yetis will close out the weekend series on Sunday, May 2, at noon at Ting Stadium.
