Bulldogs rally late to down Wake Tech

BURLINGTON, NC – Pitt Community College rallied late to defeat Wake Technical Community College 8-4 in the quarterfinals of the NJCAA DII South Atlantic District Tournament at Burlington Athletic Stadium on Friday evening.

The Eagles opened up a 3-0 lead through three innings.  Wayne Mize hit a solo homerun in the second to open up the Eagles' offense.  Matt Long connected on an RBI single in the third and Cole Cunningham doubled to bring home Long later in the inning.

Pitt added a homerun in the fourth and tied the game later in the inning with a 2 RBI double.

Verrier put the Eagles up 4-3 on solo homerun in the fifth, but that is all the offense Wake Tech could muster.

The Bulldogs tied the game in the seventh at four apiece and plated four runs in the eighth to secure the 8-4 win.

Eagle starter Luke Absher went 6.2 innings recording 12 strikeouts.  He allowed four runs off six hits with a walk. Camden Munise (3-2) took the loss for Wake Tech giving up four runs off four hits.

Wake Tech returns to Burlington in a loser bracket matchup with Camp Community College at 1pm.
