Hurricanes end Wake Tech’s Season

BURLINGTON, NC – Camp (Va.) Community College upended Wake Tech 7-2 in an elimination game in the NJCAA DII South Atlantic District Tournament Saturday afternoon at the Burlington Athletic Stadium.

After four scoreless innings, Camp put two runs on the board for the early lead.  Wake Tech answered in the bottom of the inning with one run on Cameron Verrier's double steal.  The score would stay 2-1 through eight innings.

Unfortunately, the Hurricanes took advantage of timely hitting and several Eagle miscues to plate five runs in the ninth.  Wake Tech would could only manufacturer one run in the ninth off Hunter Sells' sac fly that scored Christian Schmidt for the final run.

Johny McDonald went 3 for 4 to lead Wake Tech at the plate.  Verrier, Van Gupton Jr., and Schmidt recorded the Eagles only other hits. Verrier's hit was a double.

Bryson Wagner had the hard-luck loss for Wake Tech.  He went 4.1 innings holding the Hurricanes to two runs off one hit while recording seven strikeouts.

Wake Tech finished the 2021 campaign with a record of 20-17 and advancing to the district tournament.
