Wake Tech takes series over Southwest Virginia

HOLLY SPRINGS, NC – Wake Tech baseball completed the three-game sweep over Southwest Virginia Community College with a 12-2 victory Sunday afternoon at Ting Stadium in Holly Springs.

Southwest Virginia got on the scoreboard first when Anthony Houchins hit a solo homerun in the first inning.  However, from there it was all Wake Tech.  The Eagles scored three runs in the first inning and six runs in the second inning to pull away. Wake Tech added three additional runs in the fourth to complete the five-inning victory.

Tyler Sellers went 3-for-3 with three doubles and three RBI to lead the Eagles at the plate.  He also plated three runs for Wake Tech. Nick Badgett went 2-for-2 and scored two runs. Peyton Davis went 1-for-1 with a double and Wayne Mize went 1-for-2 with 2 RBI.

Austin Thompson picked up the win for Wake Tech.  He pitched three innings allowing two runs off three hits with four strikeouts.  Matthew Hughes closed out the game for Wake Tech without giving up a run or a hit with one strikeout in two innings.

Wake Tech returns to action on Wednesday when they host Patrick & Henry Community College on Wednesday at 3pm at Ting Stadium.
