Nine Eagles make four-year college commitments

Nine Former Wake Tech Eagles (head shots) announce four-year college plans.

RALEIGH, NC – Wake Tech Head Baseball Coach Robert Dudley today announced that nine former Eagles have committed to continue their education and athletic careers at four-year colleges.

Nick Badgett (UVA Wise), Luke Absher (Tusculum), Matt Long (Emory & Henry), Christian Schmidt (Emory & Henry), Bryson Wagner (Emory & Henry), Zach Clover (Emory & Henry), Andy Duran (William Peace), Tyler Sellers (Mars Hill), and Josh Plisko (Bluefield (WV) State) have made their transfer decisions.

Badgett (Mount Airy, NC) played two seasons for Wake Tech and appeared in 83 games.  In his sophomore season, he had 49 appearances at the plate and .273 average with 28 RBI and nine doubles.  He also stole 28 bases. He earned Second-team All Region 10 as a freshman. The University of Virginia Wise is an NCAA DII institution and a member of the South Atlantic Conference.

Absher (Lenoir, NC) played two seasons for the Eagles and appeared in 29 games on the mount.  Over two seasons, he recorded 135 strikeouts with over 122 innings with 4.28 ERA. As a freshman, he had 5-1 record with 73 strikeouts and a 3.00 ERA.  Tusculum (Tenn.) University is an NCAA DII institution and a member of the South Atlantic Conference.

Long (Fuquay-Varina, NC) spent three seasons at Wake Tech due to the shortened 2020 season.  He appeared in 100 games and hit a career .282 for Wake Tech.  He recorded 58 RBI, 14 homeruns, and 10 doubles at Wake Tech.  Emory & Henry College (Va.) is an NCAA DII institution and a member of the South Atlantic Conference.

Schmidt (Apex, NC) spent three seasons at Wake Tech due to the shortened 2020 season.  He appeared in 93 games and hit a career .273 for the Eagles.  He recorded 53 RBI and 17 doubles.  Emory & Henry College (Va.) is an NCAA DII institution and a member of the South Atlantic Conference.

Wagner (Salisbury, NC) spent two seasons at Wake Tech and appeared in 29 games on the mound. In his sophomore campaign, he went 10-2 in 14 appearances with 78 strikeouts in 62.1 innings. Emory & Henry College (Va.) is an NCAA DII institution and a member of the South Atlantic Conference.

Clover (Cary, NC) spent two seasons at Wake Tech and appeared in 23 games on the mound. In his sophomore season, he went 1-1 in 14 appearances with four saves. He pitched 17.2 innings in relief with 16 strikeouts in his second year with 4.58 ERA. Emory & Henry College (Va.) is an NCAA DII institution and a member of the South Atlantic Conference.

Duran (Charlotte, NC) spent two seasons at Wake Tech with 57 games played. In his sophomore season, he recorded 16 RBI with three doubles.  He had seven stolen bases and hit .216.  William Peace University is an NCAA DIII institution and a member of the USA South Conference.   

Sellers (Charlotte, NC) spent one season at Wake Tech and appeared in 46 games. He had 19 doubles and eight homeruns with eight stolen bases while hitting .293 with a team high .564 slugging percentage. Mars Hill University is an NCAA DII institution and a member of the South Atlantic Conference. Sellers earned All-West Second Team during his season.

Plisko (Morehead City, NC) pitched for the Eagles in the 2020-21 season.  He recorded 15.2 innings on the mound with 14 strikeouts.  He was 3-3 in 11 appearances.  Bluefield (WV) State is a NCAA DII independent institution.
