Wake Tech Esports on another championship run

RALEIGH, NC – Wake Technical Community College's Esports program is continuing its successes from the inaugural season in Spring 2021.

The Eagles are looking to defend their National Junior College Athletic Association Esports (NJCAAE) Spring Overwatch national championship title this weekend. Top-seeded Wake Tech (11-0) will play No. 4 Westchester (NY) Community College (9-2) in the semifinals on Friday night at 7:00 pm. The winner advances to the NJCAAE Championship on Sunday at 6:00 pm against the winner of the Lackawanna (PA) College versus Bryant & Stratton College (VA) semifinal. Bryant & Stratton is the Spring 2021 runners-up.

The semifinal game will be streamed live on Twitch.tv/WakeTechEsports and the championship game on Sunday will be streamed live on Twitch.tv/NJCAAE.

The 43-team field started competition on September 24 and the top 16 teams advanced to the postseason tournament. Wake Tech defeated Bismarck (ND) State College and Hawkeye (IA) Community College to reach the semifinals.

Overwatch is a colorful team-based action game starring a diverse cast of powerful heroes. Travel the world, build a team, and contest objectives in exhilarating 6v6 combat.

Wake Tech placed several teams in the NJCAAE Fall Championship Tournament in two other games, Valorant and Rocket League. The Rocket League Gold team also reached the semifinals of the tournament and Valorant advanced to the quarterfinals.
