Eagle Esports playing for two National Championships

RALEIGH, NC – Wake Tech's Esports program has two teams that will battle for a National Junior College Athletic Association Esports (NJCAAE) Spring 2022 National Championship.

On Thursday night, Wake Tech will tangle with Northern Virginia Community College (NOVA) in Rocket League.  The Eagles entered the tournament as the No. 4 seed and had to get by top-seeded Howard (Md.) Community College in the semifinals on the way to the national championship game.  Wake Tech finished the regular season with a 9-0 record this spring.  Meanwhile, the second seeded Nighthawks also went 9-0 this spring.

On Friday night, Wake Tech will also play NOVA in the championship game of NJCAAE Valorant. The Eagles went through the regular season with an 8-1 record and earned the No. 5 seed. NOVA is the second seed going 9-0 in the regular season.

Thursday's Rocket League match will start at 8pm and Friday's Valorant game will begin at 7pm. Both games can be viewed on the official NJCAAE Twitch channel (www.twitch.tv/njcaae).

Rocket League is a fantastical sport-based video game featuring a competitive game mode based on teamwork and outmaneuvering opponents. Players work with their team to advance the ball down the field, and score goals in their opponents' net (similar to soccer with cars).

Valorant is a tactical shooting game involving two teams with five players in each team. Every game has 25 rounds and the team that wins 13 of them first wins the game. Players can choose their in-game characters called agents at the start of the game.

Wake Tech has one NJCAAE National Championship in Overwatch in Spring 2021.
