Wake Tech Esports looking for new leader

Wake Technical Community College, located in Raleigh, NC, is searching for a new esports leader.  The Esports Director (Coach) position will coordinate the college's nationally competitive program.  Wake Tech competes in the National Junior College Athletic Association Esports (NJCAAE) and has fielded multiple teams reaching national prominence amongst peer institutions.

The part-time position will prioritize recruiting, selecting, and retaining student-athletes. Develops and implements program objectives. Coordinates all other aspects of intercollegiate esports team consistent with institutional and affiliated governing bodies requirements (i.e. NJCAAE, National Association of Collegiate Esports (NACE), or other) to ensure a quality esports program.

The esports program was established in Spring 2021. That spring season, the Eagles won the NJCAAE championship in Overwatch. In all, Wake Tech reached the NJCAAE championship game in four different seasons with runners-up titles in Overwatch (Fall 2021), Rocket League (Spring 2022), and Valorant (Spring 2022).  This spring, Wake Tech was the only program to have multiple teams competing in the NJCAAE playoffs in Valorant.

There are also part-time game head coaches to support the Esports Director and limited scholarships for student-athletes.

Wake Tech has a primary esports competition and practice venue located at the Southern Wake Campus in Raleigh featuring 14 Lenovo T730 with NVIDIA RTX 2080 Graphics. 9th Gen Intel® Core™ i9-9900K with vPro.  In addition, the college recently opened a new esports space located at the RTP Campus in Morrisville.

As a compliment to the Esports program, Wake Tech has a Simulation and Game Development (SGD) academic program providing students with a broad background in the simulation and video game industry. The curriculum includes practical applications in creative arts visual arts, audio/video technology, modeling, animation, design, programming, and management.
