RALEIGH, NC – Members of Wake Tech's Fall 2023 National Junior College Athletic Association Esports (NJCAAE) Premier Series National Championship League of Legends team were presented with trophies and a commemorative jersey to honor their achievement on Monday in the college's esports arena at the Southern Wake Campus.

On December 3, the Eagles grinded out three wins over a 12-plus hour period in the best of five matches to finish the championship run at 2 a.m. on a Sunday morning.

In game one, Wake Tech defeated Guilford Tech 3-0. In the second game, Wake Tech won 3-1 over Salt Lake Community College leading to the championship game against Onondaga (NY) Community College. The Eagles defeated the Lakers 3-1 for the NJCAAE title.

"It was very rewarding seeing everyone work so hard to achieve this accomplishment," said team captain Thomas Nelson. "We practiced relentlessly to keep improving each week and that paid off through championship season to claim the title."

It's the third national championship for the college's Esports program, which launched in 2020. Previously, the Eagles won the NJCAAE championship in Overwatch in Spring 2021 and captured the Fall 2022 Open Division Rocket League Championship.

"I'm so proud of the students and their accomplishments this season," said Wake Tech Esports Director Patrick McNair.  "They came together with a confidence, and a mission that they were the best team and just needed the opportunity to prove it. They deserved to win, and I am excited to see what's next for them."

Also in the Fall, Wake Tech's Rocket League finished as the NJCAAE Premier Series runners-up champion and the Valorant team finished third.  Both the Valorant and League of Legends team won their respective NJCAA East Region championship.
