A Solid Foundation: Coach Mitchell Departs Wake Tech Men’s Basketball After 8 Years

In eight seasons, Wake Tech basketball has risen from a brand new program to NJCAA Division II Final Four contenders.   Established programs from around the conference and region recognize Wake Tech for their tenacity on the court and dedication to student success.  Every step of the way, Joe Mitchell played a part in recruiting, coaching, and mentoring our student athletes.

Barry Street, Athletic Director reflects on Coach Mitchell's qualities, "I'm saddened to announce Joe Mitchell is leaving the men's basketball program.  He served Wake Tech Athletics with a deep understanding and appreciation for the game of basketball as well as a devotion to our student athletes.  It's safe to say he's left a great foundation for our men's basketball program for years to come."

Joe Mitchell was the last remaining member of the inaugural coaching staff, serving as an assistant when the Eagles were Region X Conference runner up in 2013.  Wake Tech followed that successful campaign by winning the Region X Conference title in 2014 before a deep run in the 2014 NJCAA Division II National Tournament where the Eagles reached the Final Four in Danville, Illinois.  Coach Mitchell was rewarded for his service to the program by being named head coach for the 2015-2016 season.
