Eagles drop final home game against Brunswick on a record-breaking night

RALEIGH, NC – Wake Tech Men's Basketball came up short on Sophomore Night, losing to Brunswick 107-89 in the final home game of the season. Before the game, Ceejay Jordan, Tharius Suggs, Gio Prete, and Eddie Volkerts were recognized on the court before playing their last home game at Wake Tech. Volkerts was also presented with a commemorative basketball for reaching 1,000 career points on February 3 against Gaston.

The honors didn't stop there for Volkerts who also became the program's all-time leading scorer on Wednesday, passing his former teammate Koraan Clemonts, who had 1,048 career points. Volkerts finished the night with 28 points, and now sits at 1,067 with at least two games left to play in his Wake Tech career.

With the loss, the Eagles are now in third place in the Region 10 standings, a half game ahead of Spartanburg Methodist and Cape Fear, who have completed their regular season schedules.

The Eagles go on the road Saturday to take on #22 Caldwell Tech. A win would give Wake Tech the #3-seed at the Region 10 Tournament, while a loss would put them at the #4-seed. The Cobras are 26-2 on the season, with their only conference loss coming last weekend against USC Salkehatchie. Wake Tech narrowly lost the first matchup between the two teams 85-81.
