Eagles set for important doubleheader at Pitt

RALEIGH, NC – Wake Tech Softball is on the road this weekend, taking on Pitt in a doubleheader on Saturday afternoon starting at 12:00pm. The games will be played at Winterville P&R Field, and it is also Military Appreciation Day for Pitt.

The Bulldogs are on a 10-game winning streak and are 17-10-1 (16-6 conf.) on the season. They are currently in third place in the Region 10 DII standings. The top six teams at the end of the regular season will advance to the Region 10 tournament.

Pitt is led on offense by sophomore catcher Samantha Taylor and freshman pitcher/utility Madison Hall. Taylor leads all of Region 10 DII in batting average (.540), while Hall has the edge on the league in on-base percentage (.606).

Hall also leads the team in innings pitched (113.2) and carries a 4.25 ERA into the weekend.  

The Bulldogs will come to Raleigh on Tuesday, April 23 to complete the series. That will be the final home game of the season for Wake Tech.

Statistical Highlights:

  • Both Leah Correll (WT) and Madison Hall (PITT) have put up similar numbers this year when it comes to run prevention. On the season their ERA's are separated by just seven points; Correll 4.17, Hall 4.25. In conference play, Hall has the edge, but the margin is even more narrow; Hall  3.73, Correll 3.74.
  • Correll is second in the league in strikeouts on the season (131), but leads Region 10 DII for strikeouts in conference play (97).
  • Kendall London goes into the weekend ranked fourth in the league in batting average (.467). While she has been the Eagles' most productive hitter at home, she has reached a different level on the road. She is 23-for-42 (.548) away from home, with a .604 on-base percentage.
