Wake Tech Women’s Basketball wins first regional championship

Martinsville, Va. – Wake Technical Community College won the National Junior College Athletic Association Region 10 (Southeast District) Women's Basketball Division II Championship and is advancing to the National Championship Tournament.

The Eagles defeated Louisburg College 86-59 Saturday afternoon at Patrick Henry (Va.) Community College to capture the program's first regional championship.  With the win, Wake Tech moves on to the NJCAA National Tournament held in Port Huron, Mich., at St. Clair County Community College's SC4 Fieldhouse.

Bernadette Cooke paced Wake Tech with 22 points and Charbreanna Vann netted 21 points.  Andreal Bass snagged a dominating 23 rebounds and added 18 points. Lauren Cates scored 16 points.

The Eagles averaged an impressive 23 points margin of victory during the regional tournament including wins over USC Salkehatchie (88-65) and Cape Fear Community College (76-57).

"This is the most amazing experience," said second-year head coach Alison Beasley. "We have grown so much thus far and I can't wait to see what is to come for the ladies and this program."

Beasley played at Wake Tech for two seasons (2010-11; 2012-13) and served as an assistant coach for four seasons starting in 2015 and was named the program's third head coach in 2018.

Wake Tech will learn their seed and opponent on Tuesday at 1pm during the tournament selection show. This year's selection shows will be available on NJCAA Championship TV, Facebook Live, and Twitter. The live show will feature bracket reveals, on-air analysis, highlights, exclusive interviews, and in-depth information about each tournament.
