Wake Tech welcomes Taisha Murphy as new women’s basketball coach

Taisha Murphy named new women's basketball coach at Wake Tech.

RALEIGH, NC - Wake Tech Athletic Director Robin Pate announced today that Taisha Murphy has been named to lead the Eagles' women's basketball program. Murphy brings an extensive list of credentials to the Wake Tech program, most notably her connections to high level youth basketball in Raleigh and throughout the Carolinas.

"I am excited to welcome Taisha as our head women's basketball coach," said Pate. "Her commitment to developing well-rounded student-athletes stood out throughout our interview. We strive for nurturing a winning culture both athletically and academically with the goal of seeing our student-athletes successfully transfer to four-year programs. Coach Murphy emphasized those core values."

Following an outstanding prep career at Clayton High School, she played two seasons at the University of Richmond.  Following an injury, she transferred to East Tennessee State University where she played in the 2018-19 season before another injury sidelined her collegiate career.  She earned her Bachelor's in Interdisciplinary Studies with a focus in Coaching and Sport Management from ETSU.

Currently, Murphy serves as the head coach of Team Curry (15U) since 2020 which is part of the Girls Under Armour Association (GUAA).  Based out of Charlotte, NC, Team Curry fields the top players from around the southeast region. The GUAA provides an elite league-style travel circuit for advanced players.

In addition to her Team Curry experience, she is the Director of Her Hoopstate, the girls Director for the John Wall Holiday Invitational, and the Girl's Game Director for the Josh Level Classic.  The John Wall Holiday Invitational is one of the premier high school tournaments in the country for both boys and girls.

"I am beyond grateful and excited to start my collegiate head coaching career at Wake Tech," said Murphy. "My focus is to get our student-athletes graduated and help them continue playing college basketball after leaving our program. I look forward to further developing a culture for competing for championships both regionally and nationally."

Murphy served as an assistant coach for Wake Tech during the 2022-23 season and is the fourth head coach in Wake Tech program history.
