Eagles return to conference play against #17 Louisburg

RALEIGH, NC – Wake Tech Women's Basketball returns to conference play on Wednesday with a road matchup against the Louisburg Hurricanes. Both teams are undefeated in Region 10 Division II play, and the Eagles currently have a half game lead over the #17-ranked Hurricanes in the conference standings.

Wake Tech is on a four-game winning streak which they extended on Sunday with a 76-75 win against the Mount Olive Developmental Team. A win on Wednesday would mark the Eagles' longest win streak since the 2021-22 season that saw them win 25 games and reach the NJCAA Division II tournament. It will be a tough task going up against the 5-0 Hurricanes on the road.

Louisburg struggled offensively in their first two games of the season, shooting just 25.9% from the field at the 401 Classic, but the Hurricanes have found their rhythm in conference play. In their three conference games thus far, they are shooting 41.1% from the field and 66.1% from the free throw line. They've scored over 90 points in two of their last three games, including a 94-point performance at Fayetteville Tech on November 15.

Sophomore guard Kandace Daniels is the Hurricanes' leading scorer with 16 points per game. She has reached double figures in each of their five games thus far. Last season, Wake Tech was able to hold her to just 6-for-20 shooting and a combined 20 points over two games. Louisburg got the better of Wake Tech in both contests last season, however in both games the margins of defeat were five points or less.

The Eagles are fifth in NJCAA Division II in steals per game (21.7). They are fueled in large part by the performance of freshman guard Journee Spencer, who leads all NJCAA divisions (for both men's and women's basketball) in steals per game (7.9). The Raleigh native has reached double digits in steals on two occasions so far this season.

After the trip to Louisburg, the Eagles return home this Saturday to take on another nationally ranked opponent, #20 Cape Fear. The Sea Devils are 5-0 on the season and 3-0 in conference play.
