Wake Tech Community College names Sebastian Vecchio as Head Women’s Soccer Coach

RALEIGH, N.C. (June 16, 2025) – Wake Tech Community College is proud to announce the hire of Sebastian Vecchio as the new head coach of the women's soccer program.

"We are so happy to announce Coach Vecchio as our new head women's soccer coach," Athletic Director Robin Pate said. "His experience and proven track record at the NCAA Division I level along with his incredible drive to lead women to being a success on and off of the field is an incredible asset to our program."

Vecchio most recently served as associate head coach at North Carolina State University (2023-25), where he played a pivotal role in recruiting, player development, and program management for the Wolfpack women's soccer program.

Prior to NC State, he was the head coach at California State University Bakersfield (2018-23), where his leadership helped elevate the Roadrunners to new heights — including back-to-back WAC Tournament bids in 2018 and 2019. In 2019, Vecchio led the team to a nine-win season, the highest total in 19 years.

He coached eight all-conference honorees (WAC and Big West) and 23 student-athletes earned academic all-conference honors during his tenure.

"Coming from a Division I background, coaching at Wake Tech is a deeply meaningful step for me," Vecchio said. "My family and I have chosen to set roots here, and this role allows me to give back to a community that's welcomed us with open arms. I'm passionate about continuing to coach and mentor student-athletes, not just in sport, but in life. It's an honor to help enrich this community through the game I love."

"While giving back and developing young talent are central to my mission here, make no mistake—winning matters. We're building a culture of excellence at Wake Tech where hard work, discipline, and competitive spirit are non-negotiable. I want our players to succeed in the classroom, in the community, and on the field. We're here to compete at the highest level."

Before being named head coach at CSU Bakersfield, Vecchio served as an assistant at Vanderbilt University, Texas Christian University, and the University of Memphis, where he began his coaching career as a goalkeeper coach. He also played goalkeeper for the men's soccer program at Memphis. He has coached players with national team experience, consistently elevated recruiting efforts, and prioritized student-athlete development both on and off the field at each of his stops.

Vecchio begins work immediately at Wake Tech and is eager to hit the ground running as the team prepares for the upcoming season.
