SOUTH PRINCE GEORGE, Va. — Wake Tech women's soccer will play for the Region 10 DII championship on Saturday after a thrilling win in penalty kicks at Richard Bland on Wednesday. The game will be played at #1-seed Cape Fear's home field and will kick off at 2:00.
Kaylee Faile scored the only goal for the team in regulation in Wednesday's semifinal. But neither team could break through in regulation or in two overtimes, sending the game to penalty kicks. The Eagles won 4-3 in kicks.
Wake Tech last reached the championship game in 2023, falling narrowly to Cape Fear 2-1, the winning goal going in with just 12 seconds left in regulation. But, the Eagles have kept it close against the Sea Devils in both of their matches this season, despite coming up short in both. In the conference opener at Cape Fear on September 10, Wake Tech scored first and it wasn't until the 84th minute that Cape Fear scored the winning second goal. There was just one goal in the game at home on October 15.
With a defense anchored by first team All-Region defender Averi Richmond, as well as goalkeeper Katelynn Angel, the Eagles will look to keep the Sea Devils off the board and build from the back. A win on Saturday would mark the first Region 10 DII championship in program history, and send the team to the NJCAA South District Championship in Millbrook, Alabama.
