Sophia Smallwood named to All-Region 10 Second-Team

RALEIGH, NC – The All-Region 10 Volleyball teams were released last week, and freshman outside hitter Sophia Smallwood received second-team honors. Wake Tech's season came to an end on Friday in the quarterfinals of the NJCAA Region 10 Volleyball Tournament, falling to #4 seed Davidson-Davie in straight sets.

"Sophia has brought a lot of success to our team this year," head coach Liz Reif said. "She is aggressive and not afraid to swing when we needed it. She is always coachable and a great teammate. We are very lucky to have her as part of our team."

Smallwood had an incredibly productive freshman season, leading the team in kills (170), kills per set (2.24), service aces (48), service aces per set (0.63), and points (222). She recorded double-digit kills five times throughout the season, including a career-high 17 against Pitt on September 25. The Eagles won that match 3-2.

Wake Tech finished the season with a 16-8 record, going 7-4 in conference play and reaching the quarterfinals of the Region 10 Tournament. With only one sophomore on the roster (Kennedy George), the Eagles look to bring back the majority of their talent, including Smallwood, from this season and continue to build under Reif's leadership.
