Wake Tech baseball set for duel with Lenoir Lancers

RALEIGH, NC – After a several week delay, the Wake Tech Eagles will host Lenoir Community College on Wednesday, March 24, in their 2021 home opener.  First pitch is scheduled for 2:30pm at Ting Stadium in Holly Springs.

Wake Tech was slated to open the 2021 campaign in late February, but rain and poor field conditions forced the cancellation of the home-and-home series with Thomas Nelson (Va.) Community College.

Instead, the Eagles had an abbreviated match-up with TNCC and jumped into NJCAA Region 10 West Division competition facing two teams in the NJCAA top-20.  The Eagles traveled to eighth ranked Catawba Valley Community College and twelfth ranked Patrick Henry Community College.

"It was a difficult way to start the season," said second-year Eagle head coach Robert Dudley. "However, we have made tremendous progress as a team against the top competition in the country.  We had a short fall practice window and quick start to the spring season so we've had to mature quickly as a team."

Wake Tech (4-8; 2-7) did take two of three games from Fayetteville Tech for the first wins in conference play in addition to wins against TNCC and Barton College JV.

Following Wednesday's game at Ting, the Eagles travel to Cary and the USA Baseball National Training Complex on Thursday for 6pm game with William Peace University JV.

The Eagles return to Region 10 West Division action this weekend against upstart Cleveland Community College at McNair Field in Forest City, NC.

While the season has started on the road, Wake Tech closes the 2021 campaign with 15-of-17 at home including a three-game series with Patrick Henry at historic Durham Athletic Park in late April.

Per North Carolina COVID-19 procedures, attendance at Ting Park will be limited to 700. Fans at all games in North Carolina will be required to maintain social distancing and wear face coverings.

Student-athletes, coaches, and game personnel will be required to wear face coverings when not actively involved in competition.
