Six-run first inning lifts Wake Tech over Lenoir

HOLLY SPRINGS – Wake Tech plated six-runs in the first inning and never looked back leading to a 17-7 victory over Lenoir Community College in six innings Wednesday afternoon at Ting Stadium in Holly Springs.

Johny McDonald hit a lead-off double to start the game and advanced to third one batter later when Cole Cunningham doubled.  Christian Schmidt hit the Eagles third straight double scoring McDonald.  Cam Verrier hit a two-run single into right field to score Schmidt and Cunningham.  Camden Munise singled to first scoring Verrier to close out the six-run first inning.

Wake Tech (5-8) also scored six runs in the sixth inning to secure the shortened victory.

Schmidt went 2-for-2 and Cunningham went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead Wake Tech.

Luke Nelson, McDonald, Cunningham, Schmidt, and Andy Duran each hit doubles. Schmidt and Josh Harbinson each recorded triples.

Eagle starter Trevor Glisson (2-2) earned the victory with two innings of action.  Glisson allowed one hit with one strikeout.  In all, five Eagle pitchers allowed just six hits.

Wake Tech returns to action on Thursday when they travel to Cary and the USA Baseball National Training Complex for 6pm game with William Peace University JV.
